NEET PG Counselling 2026 Seat Matrix: How to Review AIQ, DNB and Deemed University Options

Posted on October 16, 2026 By Ankita Singh No Comments on NEET PG Counselling 2026 Seat Matrix: How to Review AIQ, DNB and Deemed University Options

A NEET PG seat matrix is a round-wise listing of postgraduate medical seats available for counselling. It commonly organizes seats by course, institution, quota or category, and the authority conducting the relevant counselling process. For applicants comparing All India Quota (AIQ), DNB, and deemed university options, the matrix can help identify which seats are included in(NEET PG) a particular round and where they are offered. It is a snapshot of availability, not a guarantee that every listed seat will remain open through choice filling or allotment.

Seat counts and availability may change between counselling rounds. Changes can follow new approvals, institutional withdrawals, seat conversions, or corrections and other updates issued by the responsible authority. A seat shown in one round may not appear in the next, while a later update may add or reclassify seats. Applicants should therefore avoid relying on a copied table or a figure quoted without its round and publication details. No current total should be assumed unless it is supported by an official notice for the relevant cycle.

Before using a document, confirm that it is specifically for the 2026 counselling cycle and obtain the latest notices and downloadable files from the appropriate official source. For counselling streams administered by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), use MCC publications; for DNB counselling, consult the relevant official DNB counselling authority. Where another authorized body administers a stream, verify its own official releases. Distinguish these published matrices from news reports, coaching-site summaries, and documents from earlier years, which may be useful for context but are not authoritative for current choices. Check the publication date, document version, counselling round, and any corrigendum or subsequent notice before selecting preferences. If versions conflict, follow the latest applicable official communication, and revisit the source before each round or choice-filling deadline. This careful check helps ensure decisions are based on the correct seat information rather than an outdated or unofficial summary.

The All India Quota (AIQ) portion of the NEET PG counselling seat matrix shows seats offered through the applicable national counselling process. Read each entry as a specific combination of course, institution, seat count, category and counselling round—not as a general guarantee of admission. The matrix may include different postgraduate courses and specialties, and similar college names or abbreviations can make entries easy to confuse.

Begin by downloading the latest seat matrix from the official counselling authority’s website, along with its instructions and any notices issued for the relevant round. Check the publication date and round before using a saved copy, since seat availability and details may be updated. Search the document by course or specialty, then by institution name. Confirm that the college and specialty match the options you intend to assess; do not rely solely on a shortened name, code or search result.

For every relevant listing, note the stated number of seats and the category or reservation information shown. Review any codes or abbreviations using the official legend or accompanying instructions rather than inferring their meaning. Also establish whether the entry is marked for AIQ, a particular round, or another applicable quota. The same institution may appear in multiple sections, and those listings may refer to different seats or conditions.

A practical review can be recorded in a simple table with columns for institution, specialty, seat count, category, quota and round. This makes comparisons easier and helps candidates revisit entries while preparing choices. Before choice filling, check the current counselling scheme and notices for eligibility requirements, reservation rules, the permitted choice process and any provisions for seat conversion. These details are governed by official regulations and may differ by counselling authority or round.

A seat shown in one round should not be assumed to remain available in the next. Vacancies can change through allotment, non-joining, resignation, conversion or other processes set out in official rules. Recheck the published matrix and notices each time a new round begins, and use only the current official information when making counselling decisions.

DNB seats and seats in deemed-to-be universities may be presented in separate counselling streams, sections, or official documents. They should not be treated as interchangeable options: eligibility requirements, fee obligations, quota or category designations, and choice-filling procedures can differ. Before comparing a DNB option with a deemed-university seat, first establish which counselling process governs it and consult the current official notices for that process. Do not infer that a seat listed in one stream is available through another stream or that the same conditions apply across both.

For each entry, verify the exact course or specialty, institution, number of seats, category or quota designation, and counselling round shown in the authorized listing. Check that the institution and program match the option you intend to rank; similar names or specialty labels can make entries easy to confuse. Seat availability and displayed counts can be specific to a round or category, so rely on the relevant, current matrix rather than summaries or figures from another year. If a listing is unclear, consult its accompanying instructions or official counselling notices before making a choice.

For deemed-to-be universities, review the official fee structure and any institution-specific conditions before adding a seat to your preference list. Consider the applicable charges and requirements alongside eligibility and the listed quota, and confirm that the documents relate to the current counselling cycle. For DNB choices, check the authorized matrix and related notices to confirm the program, specialty, hospital details, seat designation, and applicable choice-filling requirements. Use official sources to resolve discrepancies, and avoid assuming that a DNB program and a university seat follow identical procedures. Careful, entry-by-entry verification makes comparisons more reliable and helps ensure that preferences reflect the actual options and conditions published for the relevant round.

Begin by confirming that you meet the eligibility requirements and have selected the correct counselling stream, such as All India Quota, DNB, or deemed university counselling, as applicable. Check whether the seat matrix relates to the current round and includes your category and candidate type. Then filter available seats systematically by specialty, location, institution, quota, and affordability. Consider tuition, deposits, and other costs alongside practical factors such as travel and training environment. Remove options you would not genuinely accept; a long list is useful only when its choices are viable for you.

NEET PG Next, rank the remaining options according to your real preferences. Give priority to the specialty, institution, and location you would choose if offered, rather than placing a seat higher solely because you believe its cut-off may be easier to meet. Cut-offs can vary, and past allotments do not guarantee future outcomes. Before each round, revisit the live matrix and relevant notices to identify additions, withdrawals, or changes. Keep a record of the file version, publication date, and time you reviewed it so that your decisions are based on the latest information available to you.

Monitor official announcements closely for revised matrices, choice-filling windows, locking deadlines, and round-specific instructions. After results are published, review your allotment and reporting requirements carefully, including deadlines, documents, fees, and the designated reporting process. A seat appearing in the matrix indicates availability at the time of publication; it does not guarantee that you will be allotted that seat. Participation, choice locking, upgrades, resignation, and reporting are governed by the current official rules, which may differ by counselling stream or round. Confirm any uncertainty through the relevant official portal before acting. Use those portals as the final authority for seat counts, deadlines, and instructions.
