NEET PG Counselling 2026 Round 1: Registration Guide, Eligibility, Choice Filling, and Key Dates

Posted on October 12, 2026 By Ankita Singh No Comments on NEET PG Counselling 2026 Round 1: Registration Guide, Eligibility, Choice Filling, and Key Dates

Round 1 of NEET PG Counselling 2026 is the initial centralized process through which eligible postgraduate medical aspirants can compete for available MD, MS, PG Diploma, and related medical seats. For seats under the All India Quota, deemed universities, central universities, and other participating institutions, the process is generally administered by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Participating institutions may also follow the instructions issued by the relevant counselling authority. Registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting are conducted according to the official schedule and published notices.

The registration window, seat matrix, fee details, and Round 1 deadlines will be confirmed through official announcements. Candidates should rely only on the MCC website, the concerned institution’s official portal, or the applicable government counselling website for updates. Those who have qualified NEET PG 2026 and seek admission through the relevant counselling quota should generally participate if they meet the stated eligibility conditions. State quota seats are usually handled by respective state counselling authorities and may have different registration windows, eligibility rules, reservation policies, documents, and procedures. Therefore, applying for central counselling does not automatically complete state counselling requirements.

Before registration begins, candidates should prepare their NEET PG application details, rank and score information, an active mobile number, and a regularly monitored email address. They should also keep valid identity documents, category and domicile certificates where applicable, internship completion proof, medical registration details, and correctly scanned photographs and signatures ready. A reliable payment method is necessary for registration or counselling fees, where applicable. Before submitting information, candidates must verify their eligibility, fee obligations, document formats and file sizes, choice-filling rules, and applicable deadlines from the latest official notification. Early preparation can reduce errors and help candidates complete each stage within the permitted timeframe.

Begin by visiting the official NEET PG counselling portal through the website of the designated counselling authority. Avoid relying on links shared through unofficial social media accounts or third-party websites. On the homepage, locate the link labelled for NEET PG 2026 counselling and open the Round 1 registration section. Select “New Candidate Registration” and read the instructions before proceeding. Enter the NEET PG roll number, application number, date of birth, and other examination credentials exactly as they appear on the admit card and scorecard. Even a minor difference can prevent authentication or create complications during verification.

Provide personal details, including the candidate’s full name, parents’ names, date of birth, category, and contact information, exactly as recorded in official documents. If the portal asks applicants to create a user ID or password, choose secure login credentials and store them safely. Verify the registered mobile number and email address using the one-time password or confirmation link supplied by the portal. After verification, carefully check the examination details displayed automatically, such as NEET PG rank, score, qualifying status, and other information. Report discrepancies through the prescribed helpdesk before submitting the form.

Complete the remaining academic and contact fields, then select all applicable counselling categories, quotas, or eligibility options. Upload photographs, signatures, identity proof, category certificates, and other required documents in the specified file format, size, and resolution. Review each file before uploading; blurred scans, incomplete pages, expired certificates, or documents issued by an unauthorised body may lead to rejection. Ensure that names and category details are consistent across the application and supporting records.

Pay the registration fee and, where applicable, the security deposit using an available online method such as a debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI. Do not refresh, close, or press the payment button repeatedly while the transaction is processing. After successful payment, save the transaction receipt, registration number, completed application form, and payment confirmation in both digital and printed formats. Submit well before the deadline, since heavy traffic during the final hours can cause slow loading, failed payments, or missed submission windows.

After completing registration for NEET PG Counselling 2026, candidates must proceed to choice filling within the notified schedule. Before entering preferences, review the colleges, postgraduate specialties, seat types, quota details, and category-wise vacancies displayed on the counselling portal. Check whether seats are available under the All India Quota, state quota, institutional quota, or other applicable classifications, and verify the eligibility conditions attached to each option. Vacancy lists can change between rounds, so candidates should rely on the latest official notice and seat matrix.

A preference list should reflect both academic goals and practical circumstances. Consider interest in a specialty, the reputation of the college and department, location, tuition and other charges, expected clinical exposure, faculty support, hospital workload, bond conditions, compulsory service obligations, hostel availability, and likely living expenses. Candidates should also assess how each choice fits their long-term career plans, including opportunities for further training, research, private practice, or public-sector service. A realistic list may include ambitious, suitable, and safer preferences rather than relying on a single institution.

During the permitted choice-filling window, the portal may allow candidates to add, reorder, modify, or remove choices. However, the precise editing rules, number of permitted choices, and deadlines must be confirmed in the official counselling notice. After reviewing the final order, candidates should lock their choices before the stated deadline and download or print the confirmation page, locked-choice list, and any transaction or submission receipt. Do not assume that unconfirmed preferences will be preserved automatically if choices are not locked manually.

Seat allotment generally follows a sequence: registration and choice submission, processing according to merit rank, category, seat availability, and candidate preferences, and publication of the allotment result. A candidate offered a seat may be required to accept it, report for document verification, pay the prescribed amount, and submit original documents within a fixed period. Depending on the rules, the candidate may join the allotted college, seek an upgrade, or participate in later rounds. Missing a reporting or payment deadline can lead to cancellation, so every instruction in the allotment letter should be followed carefully.

NEET PG After a Round 1 seat is allotted, candidates should prepare for verification and reporting without delay. Commonly required documents include the NEET PG scorecard or result, admit card, allotment letter, government-issued identity proof, medical degree or provisional certificate, internship completion certificate, permanent or provisional registration certificate, academic marksheets, recent photographs, and fee payment receipts. Candidates claiming reservation or special benefits may also need category, disability, or other eligibility certificates. Domicile documents may be necessary for applicable state or institutional quotas. Every certificate should be current, issued by the authorized authority, and consistent with the details entered during registration. Where originals are required, candidates should carry them along with the specified number of self-attested or photocopied sets.

NEET PG Following allotment, download the allotment letter and check the joining deadline, reporting venue, portal instructions, and institution-specific requirements. Complete physical or online reporting within the stated period, pay the admission fees, undergo document verification, and submit any declarations or undertakings requested by the counselling authority or college. Candidates should obtain an acknowledgement confirming successful reporting and verify that their admission status is updated on the official portal. Missing a deadline or failing to report can lead to cancellation of the allotted seat. Providing false, altered, or incomplete information may result in disqualification, admission cancellation, or other action under applicable rules. Before declining a seat, review the provisions on fee forfeiture, seat cancellation, resignation, and eligibility for subsequent rounds, because withdrawing at one stage may affect participation later.

Use this final checklist: verify the official schedule, register early, preserve every receipt and acknowledgement, lock preferences only after careful review, monitor allotment updates, read upgrade and resignation rules, and check official notices regularly for changes. Requirements can differ between counselling authorities and institutions, so the latest published notice should always take priority over informal guidance.
