CBSE Board Exams 2024: What are the major changes announced this year?

Posted on December 4, 2023December 4, 2023 By Ankita Singh No Comments on CBSE Board Exams 2024: What are the major changes announced this year?

Introduction

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently announced significant changes to the board exams that will be implemented in the year 2024. These changes aim to enhance the examination system, provide more flexibility to students, and promote holistic development. In this article, we will discuss the major changes announced by CBSE for the upcoming board exams.

1. Introduction of Applied Mathematics

One of the notable changes is the introduction of Applied Mathematics as a subject for the board exams. This addition aims to provide students with practical knowledge and skills in mathematics that can be applied in real-life scenarios. It will give students the opportunity to explore various career paths related to applied mathematics.

2. Skill-Based Assessment

CBSE has also introduced skill-based assessment in certain subjects. This assessment will focus on evaluating the practical skills of students, such as communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. It will provide a more comprehensive evaluation of a student’s abilities beyond rote memorization.

3. Internal Choices

In order to reduce the stress and pressure on students, CBSE has increased the number of internal choices in the question papers. This will allow students to choose questions from a given set, giving them the opportunity to showcase their strengths and preferences. It will also encourage a deeper understanding of the subjects by allowing students to focus on areas they feel more confident in.

4. Reduced Syllabus

In light of the ongoing pandemic and the disruptions it has caused in the academic year, CBSE has decided to reduce the syllabus for the board exams. This reduction aims to ease the burden on students and give them more time to focus on the essential topics. However, it is important to note that the core concepts and fundamentals will not be compromised.

5. Modular Examinations

CBSE has introduced the concept of modular examinations, which will allow students to take exams in different modules throughout the academic year. This system will provide flexibility to students, enabling them to focus on specific subjects or modules at a time. It will also provide opportunities for early assessment and remedial measures.

6. Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Recognizing the growing importance of artificial intelligence in various fields, CBSE has decided to integrate AI into the curriculum. This integration aims to familiarize students with AI concepts, applications, and ethical considerations. It will equip them with the necessary skills to adapt to the changing technological landscape.

Conclusion

The changes announced by CBSE for the 2024 board exams are aimed at providing students with a more holistic and flexible examination system. The introduction of Applied Mathematics, skill-based assessment, internal choices, reduced syllabus, modular examinations, and integration of AI will contribute to a more comprehensive evaluation of students’ abilities and promote their overall development. These changes reflect CBSE’s commitment to adapting to the evolving needs of students and preparing them for the challenges of the future.
