As the NEET UG examination gets closer to its final date or after one completes it, aspiring doctors must understand what the next steps are. This includes staying updated with all of the NEET UG related announcements from the National Testing Agency, Medical Counselling Committee and their respective state authorities.
Some of the most relevant admission-related updates include:
NEET UG result and scorecard announcements.
Qualifying cut-offs and eligibility requirements.
MCC counselling registration and choice-filling schedules.
State-level counselling notifications.
Seat allotment results and reporting deadlines.
Document verification and admission requirements.
It is essential to remember that counselling dates, eligibility rules, and seat availability can change through official notices. Therefore, students must double-check the latest available information before submitting an application or paying a fee.

Moreover, one should not trust any unverified social media posts or announcements claiming to represent any official authority. In general, the counselling process has several important steps that must be followed in order:
1. Counselling Registration
Eligible candidates must register through the counselling authority. They must provide the required details, complete the application and pay the applicable registration fee or security deposit, if necessary.
2. Choice Filling and Locking
Applicants can select their preferred colleges and courses in the order of their choice during the choice-filling process. For example, a candidate applying from Bihar can include government medical colleges in Bihar, along with applicable colleges in other states in their preferred order, depending on the applicable quota and admission rules.

Government vs Private Medical Colleges: What Should You Compare?
When comparing medical colleges, candidates should not only focus on the seat availability but also analyse the overall package that is right for them. Government Medical Colleges typically have a lower fee as compared to private institutions, though it can vary. However, admission is highly competitive, and it is crucial to understand the allotment trends and analyse one’s rank within the applicable cut-offs.
