NEET UG 2026 Special Stray Vacancy and Fifth-Round Seat Matrix: Choice Filling Opens

Posted on November 4, 2026 By neet bulletin No Comments on NEET UG 2026 Special Stray Vacancy and Fifth-Round Seat Matrix: Choice Filling Opens

Reports of the NEET UG 2026 fifth-round and special stray vacancy seat matrix, together with the opening of choice filling, signal that counselling has entered a later phase. At this stage, candidates may be able to review the seats still available and submit or revise preferences, (NEET UG 2026) subject to the instructions issued by the relevant counselling authority. A seat matrix typically lists vacancies by course, institution, and category, but its publication does not guarantee that every listed option will remain available when allotment takes place.

These rounds are generally intended to address seats left unfilled after earlier counselling rounds. The fifth round and the special stray vacancy process should not automatically be treated as interchangeable: they may follow different rules, timelines, and participation conditions. Eligibility can depend on a candidate’s prior registration, choices, allotment history, reporting status, or other circumstances. In some processes, accepting or joining a seat can affect whether a candidate may take part in a subsequent round. Candidates should therefore avoid relying on assumptions based on previous years or on informal summaries.

The current official notice is the controlling source for the applicable schedule, participating institutes, available seats, choice-filling method, and any payment, reporting, or document requirements. Read the notice and its annexures carefully, including dates and instructions for locking choices, checking allotment results, and completing admission formalities. Confirm that the published matrix corresponds to the correct counselling authority and course, since different authorities may conduct separate processes. Before submitting preferences, compare the options with your eligibility and genuine willingness to accept a seat. If any rule is unclear, seek clarification through the authority’s official helpdesk or published channels. Careful review can help candidates understand which opportunity applies to them and avoid missing a deadline or making a choice with consequences they have not considered.

A seat matrix is an official snapshot of vacancies available for a particular counselling round. It generally lists seats by institute and course, such as MBBS or BDS, and may further separate them by quota, reservation category, and other classifications specified by the counselling authority. Read the column headings and any accompanying notes carefully: abbreviations, eligibility conditions, and the meaning of vacancy labels can differ across authorities or rounds. The matrix describes seats reported as available at the time of publication; it is not a list of seats guaranteed to remain open throughout choice filling.

To assess whether a listed vacancy is relevant, first match the course and institute with your preferences. Then check the quota and category against your eligibility and application details. For example, a seat under a state quota may require the relevant domicile or other state-specific qualification, while a category-reserved seat is generally relevant only to candidates who meet its documentation requirements. Also verify that the seat belongs to the counselling authority handling your application. A vacancy published by one authority may not be accessible through another authority’s process. Compare the listed options with your rank and the round’s applicable rules, but do not assume that a particular rank will secure a seat.

It can be useful to compare the latest seat matrix with earlier versions for the same counselling process. This may reveal seats newly added, withdrawn, or revised, as well as changes to institute, course, quota, or category details. Make comparisons using the official documents and note their publication dates, since older information may no longer reflect current vacancies. If a discrepancy appears, follow the latest official matrix and check the authority’s notices or instructions for clarification before submitting choices. Most importantly, a seat appearing in the matrix does not guarantee allotment. Allocation depends on factors such as candidate preferences, rank, eligibility, category, applicable rules, and the choices of other candidates. Treat the matrix as a planning reference, then confirm the final result through the official allotment notice.

Begin by accessing the official counselling portal through its published address, rather than a link shared in a message or social media post. Sign in using your own credentials and confirm that your candidate profile, registration number, contact information, category details, and other relevant records are accurate. If anything appears incorrect, consult the official instructions or helpdesk promptly; do not submit choices while a significant discrepancy remains unresolved.

Before selecting options, open the latest seat matrix and confirm that it applies to the Special Stray Vacancy or fifth round in which you are participating. Compare the available colleges, courses, seat categories, and other published details with your eligibility. Read the current round-specific rules as well, including provisions on participation, upgrades, previous allotments, reporting, and possible forfeiture. Requirements can vary by round, so information from an earlier stage may no longer apply.

Research each eligible college and course using reliable sources, including official institution information where available. Consider location, fees, course preferences, practical constraints, and whether you could complete reporting requirements within the stated period. Enter choices in the order you genuinely prefer them, not according to guesses about what the system may allot or advice from unverified posts. Include only options you would actually accept if allotted; adding an unwanted option can create obligations or consequences under the applicable rules.

Review the entire list on screen before saving. Check for omissions, duplicate or unintended selections, and an order that does not reflect your priorities. Follow the portal’s instructions on saving, editing, and locking choices, and note the official deadline and time zone. Do not assume that saved choices are automatically locked, or that a lock can later be reversed. After submission, retain the confirmation page, choice list, and any receipt or reference number. Check the official portal regularly for status updates, notices, and results, and act only on current instructions. If the portal reports an error, record the details and use the official support channel rather than relying on third-party interpretations.

Once choice filling closes, candidates should monitor the official counselling portal for the allotment result and any accompanying notice. Results may be released according to the published schedule, but dates or timings can change. Check the candidate login and official announcements rather than relying on forwarded messages, unofficial websites, or assumptions based on previous rounds. Confirm the round name, applicable quota, reporting dates, and instructions before taking further action. If a seat is allotted, review the institute and course details carefully.

Download the allotment letter from the designated portal as soon as it becomes available, and save a copy for presentation. Read it in full: it may specify payment requirements, reporting mode, venue, deadlines, and documents to carry. Complete any required fee payment only through the channel stated in the notice, retaining transaction proof and receipts. If document verification is required, attend at the stated place or complete the authorized online process within the allotted window. Ensure names, application details, and allotted seat information are consistent across the letter and supporting records.

NEET UG 2026 Before traveling, confirm the institute’s reporting address, opening hours, and whether original documents, photocopies, or digital files are required. Check the official notice for the precise document list; records may include the NEET UG admit card and scorecard, allotment letter, identity proof, examination certificates and marksheets, category or disability certificates where applicable, photographs, and proof of fee payment. Verify that each document is valid, legible, and matches the information in your application. Also note any undertaking, bond, medical fitness requirement, or additional fee mentioned for the institute. Follow the instructions for this specific round: procedures, eligibility conditions, payment rules, and timelines can differ, so do not assume an earlier round’s process still applies. Recheck notices for revised dates or instructions, and make decisions only through authorized counselling channels.
