Dr. Himanshu Aeron: Preparedness before disasters is the strongest defense; students should become society’s first line of safety
Under the aegis of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University, Dehradun, organized a one-day Disaster Management Training Program in collaboration with the Dehradun District Disaster Management Authority.
The program was coordinated by NSS Program Coordinator Pradeep Maharaj. The training sessions were conducted by the team from the District Disaster Management Authority, led by Master Trainer Raju Shahi.

The program was formally inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr. Himanshu Aeron. In his inspiring address, Dr. Aeron stated, “Disasters do not come with prior warning. However, if society—especially the youth—is trained and alert, the loss of life and property can be significantly reduced. The responsibility of a university is not limited to awarding degrees; it must also nurture capable citizens who can lead during emergencies.” He urged students to promote awareness and sensitivity towards disaster management at the community level.
The program was smoothly conducted by Midhat Aslam. Faculty members including Dr. Imran Khan, Dr. Raman Kimathi, Manali Rawat, Dr. Deepak, and Dr. Alok were also present on the occasion. All encouraged students to actively participate in such capacity-building initiatives.

Approximately 300 students participated in the training program They were provided with practical knowledge on emergency response, first aid, safe evacuation procedures, and preparedness measures before and after disasters.
The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness among young volunteers about disaster preparedness and to empower them to act as responsible citizens during emergency situations.
