UP NEET PG Counselling 2026: Understanding the Round 1 Merit List, Seat Matrix and Next Steps

Posted on October 27, 2026 By neet bulletin No Comments on UP NEET PG Counselling 2026: Understanding the Round 1 Merit List, Seat Matrix and Next Steps

The Uttar Pradesh NEET PG Round 1 merit list is a counselling document that identifies candidates considered for participation in the state’s postgraduate medical admission process. It helps applicants understand their position among eligible candidates and provides a basis for subsequent counselling steps, such as choice filling and seat allotment. ( NEET PG ) The list is an important check, but it should not be treated as an admission offer.

Being included generally indicates eligibility to take part in the relevant stage of state counselling, subject to the current rules and completion of required steps. It does not guarantee a seat in a particular college, speciality or category. Allotment depends on factors including merit position, preferences submitted, available seats, reservation provisions and the applicable counselling rules. Candidates must continue to follow official instructions even after their names appear.

When checking the document, confirm that your name and NEET PG roll number match your application and examination records. Review the rank shown, category and, where provided, your Uttar Pradesh state merit position. Check spelling and other identifying details carefully, and make sure you are viewing the correct list and counselling round. Similar names or differences in numbering can lead to confusion, so verify more than one identifier.

Compare the published information with the details submitted in your application and any relevant certificates or records. If an entry appears inaccurate, do not assume that it will be corrected automatically. Read the latest notice from the official counselling authority for instructions on raising a query, submitting a representation or requesting a correction, including the required documents and deadline. Keep copies of the list, application and supporting records for reference.

If your name is missing, first check that you have opened the correct and most recent document and reviewed any accompanying eligibility or provisional-list notice. Then consult the authority’s official website and published contact or grievance procedure for guidance. Dates, eligibility conditions and correction processes may change or be clarified through later notices. Rely on official sources for updates, and avoid basing decisions on unofficial reports or assumed timelines.

The Round 1 seat matrix is the published inventory of postgraduate medical seats offered for counselling. It helps candidates see which institutions and courses have reported seats for the round, and how those seats are distributed. Depending on the official document, entries may be organized by college, course or specialty, quota, and reservation category. Candidates should read the accompanying notes and abbreviations carefully, since labels and eligibility rules can affect how a seat is treated.

A figure shown for a course or institution should not automatically be understood as the number of seats available to every applicant. The total intake may include seats assigned to different categories or quotas, while a candidate’s access depends on their category, rank, eligibility, applicable reservation rules, and the counselling process. Compare the relevant row and column in the matrix, and check whether the document reports sanctioned intake, seats offered in that round, or vacancies remaining after an earlier stage. These figures can describe different things.

The matrix is also subject to change. Administrative updates, revised approvals, seat withdrawals, or other official decisions may alter the inventory before or during counselling. Availability can change again in later rounds as candidates join, resign, or become eligible for further choices. For this reason, use the latest official matrix and notices published by the counselling authority, rather than relying on an older copy, a third-party summary, or figures shared informally.

When preparing choices, assess each option in context instead of focusing only on seat totals. Consider the specialty’s fit with your career plans, the institution’s facilities and reputation, location, tuition and other costs, and any service obligation or bond conditions. Review the applicable rules and fee information from official sources before locking choices. A smaller number of seats may still represent a suitable option, while a larger intake does not necessarily make a college the right choice. A careful comparison of eligibility, preferences, and current seat information can support a more informed Round 1 decision.

Round 1 seat allotment is generally a sequence of eligibility checks, candidate preferences and seat availability, applied under the rules published by the Uttar Pradesh counselling authority. Eligible candidates must complete the required registration steps and submit their choices during the officially announced choice-filling period. Choices should be entered in the preferred order and locked before the deadline; where the process specifies a separate locking step, saved but unlocked choices may not be considered. Candidates should verify their application details and retain confirmation of completed actions.

When allotment is processed, candidates are considered according to the applicable merit order, reservation provisions, eligibility criteria and allocation rules. Their submitted choices are matched against seats available in participating institutions and courses. A higher-ranked candidate may receive a preferred seat first, reducing the options left for candidates considered later. Consequently, the outcome depends not only on an individual’s rank, but also on the preferences of candidates ahead of them, the category and seat rules that apply, and the vacancies available when their turn is reached.

Being included in a merit list indicates that a candidate has been placed in the relevant list under the published criteria; it does not, by itself, mean that a seat has been allotted or admission completed. A candidate must check the official allotment result and follow the instructions attached to the outcome. If a seat is offered, acceptance, reporting or further participation may require action within specified timelines. Missing a required step can affect the candidate’s eligibility to retain the allotment or take part in later rounds.

For Round 1, candidates should regularly consult official notices for the choice-filling and locking deadlines, the expected or announced result date, reporting location and procedure, and rules for joining or declining an allotted seat. They should also check whether a security deposit is required, when and how it must be paid, and which original documents, copies or verification steps are necessary. Dates and requirements can change, so rely on current official updates rather than unofficial schedules, and prepare documents in advance without treating unannounced details as confirmed.

Once the Round 1 result is issued, download the allotment result from the official counselling portal and save a copy for your records. Check your name, rank, allotted college, course, category and other details carefully. If any information appears incorrect or unclear, consult the authority’s published instructions and contact the designated helpdesk promptly; do not rely on unofficial lists or social media posts. Note the reporting or joining deadline and the required method, which may involve online steps, physical reporting, or both. Missing a deadline can affect the allotment or eligibility for further participation, so plan travel and document preparation in advance.

Prepare the documents specified in the current official notice, keeping originals and the requested number of photocopies ready. These may include your NEET PG admit card and scorecard, identity proof, MBBS degree or provisional certificate, academic records, internship completion evidence, registration certificate and allotment paperwork. Candidates claiming reservation or domicile benefits should also arrange the relevant valid certificates in the prescribed format. Check names, dates and other details across records, and confirm whether certificates must be recent, digitally verified or issued by a particular authority. Follow the portal’s checklist rather than assuming that documents accepted in a previous process will be sufficient.

Before accepting or joining a seat, review the applicable tuition and other fees, payment deadlines, bond conditions, service obligations and rules for resignation or withdrawal. Understand the consequences of joining, declining or leaving a seat, including any effect on eligibility for later rounds, before making a decision. If you are not allotted a seat in Round 1, ( NEET PG ) monitor official notices for subsequent rounds and check the participation, registration, choice-filling and security-deposit rules that apply to your situation. Do not assume that preferences or eligibility automatically carry forward. For the definitive merit list, seat matrix, schedule, reporting procedure and any changes, rely on the counselling authority’s official portal and notices, and verify updates regularly.
