NEET PG 2024: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has collected over Rs 75 crore just through the NEET PG 2024 exam fees deposited by the medical candidates. The data comes after Dr Aman Kaushik, a NEET-PG aspirant filed an RTI query to the Board to seek details on the total examination fees collected in the 2024 NEET PG exam and the corresponding expenditure.
Last year, NBEMS reduced the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) exam fees for all candidates by Rs 750. Candidates belonging to the General and OBC categories had to pay Rs 3,500 and candidates belonging to SC, ST and PWD had to pay Rs 2,500.
The decision to reduce the NEET PG application fee was made to benefit the lakhs of candidates appearing for the examinations, a statement issued by NBEMS official said.
In 2013, the NEET PG application fee for the General and OBC categories was Rs 3,750, which was raised to Rs 4,250 in 2021. This has been reduced to Rs 3,500 from January 1, 2024.
In 2013, the application fee for SC, ST and PWD candidates was Rs 2,750, which was raised to Rs 3,250 in 2021. This has been reduced to Rs 2,500 now.
Kaushik speaking to edexlive questioned that despite significant revenue, aspirants face various kinds of mismanagement including cancellation of the exam just a day before the exam.
Additionally, in the RTI query, the Board said that they utilize a cash-based accounting system, recording expenses only when invoices are received for payment.
