Dehradun. The Department of Nursing at Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University (RBBSU) organized an awareness program on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day. The program was centered on this year’s theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” and was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Himanshu Aeran.
In his motivational address, Dr. Aeran emphasized,
“Mental health is the strongest foundation of any society. Suicide is not just an individual concern but also a serious social and educational challenge. We must break the ‘culture of silence’ and encourage open dialogue.
Today’s youth must embrace resilience, emotional intelligence, and positive life skills. True suicide prevention is not merely about removing negative thoughts, but about creating a supportive and empathetic environment.
The University is committed to instilling life management and social responsibility among students, while ensuring that every young mind believes – every life is precious.”
On this occasion, the Principal of Nursing College, Dr. Dipti Yashwant Rao Sorte, and Vice-Principal, Ms. Nitika Kaushal, highlighted the significance of such initiatives and motivated students to move forward with awareness and sensitivity. Ms. Shristi Thapa, Head of the Department of Mental Health Nursing and Associate Professor, delivered an impactful session on suicide prevention, emotional resilience, and the importance of self-care.
Students showcased their creativity through DIY and Poster Competitions on the theme of suicide prevention. A mime show based on real-life suicide cases left a deep impact on the audience, while a dance performance titled “Baat Toh Suno” conveyed a strong message about positive thinking and overcoming negative thoughts.
The faculty of the Mental Health Nursing Department conducted valuable sessions on legal aspects, self-care, and emotional resilience, which proved highly insightful and impactful for the audience.
