Under pressure following harsh criticisms of the Supreme Court, the Centre, National Medical Commission and National Board for Education in medical sciences gave in and told the court that the NEET-Super Speciality examinations will take place following the old design for the academic period 2021-22. The new model will commence beginning in the 2022-23 session. The Supreme Court on dt.05-10-2021 pulled up the Centre over the modifications to the exam pattern for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET-SS) 2021 and said it was evident that the medical field and its regulations within the country have turned into an industry.
After being accused of shaming the Supreme Court on the last-minute revisions to the exam format that will be used in NEET SS 2021, the Central government has decided to implement changes starting next year. Informing the Supreme Court of the matter, counsel for the Centre has confirmed that this year’s NEET SS will be held according to the current exam pattern. The new pattern will come into starting in the academic year 2022-2023.
Additional Information Regarding the Matter:
As many up to 41 MD doctors come to an SC via advocate Javedur Rehman, alleging that the government altered regulations for the exam following the opening whistle, by changing the pattern of questions and the subject-wise distribution of marks in the NEET-SS exam from the way it was in 2018, and notified about the changes over one month after the timetable of the examination was made public. The change, they claimed, could have impacted the preparations of over 12,000 doctors who were aspiring to take super speciality training.
At the time of the session, it was discovered there was a ruling by the Supreme Court that said that doctors shouldn’t be treated as football. It is recommended that you discuss the issue and fix your home. Doctors shouldn’t be at the demands of insensitive bureaucrats. The bench had asked NBE together with NBC to cooperate with health ministers in arranging their homes. This is an essential element of the (doctors) professional career. It is difficult to make these changes at the end of the day.
Following the updated pattern, all of the questions asked for super specialties admission will be from general medicine. According to the pattern that was in place from 2018 to 2020 60% of questions came in the super specialization course that students chose and 40% of the questions came in the categories of feeders, as the bench noted.
