The entire nation is mourning the demise of one of the tallest figures of Indian art — the world-renowned sculptor and creator of the Statue of Unity, Padma Vibhushan awardee Ram V. Sutar. On this sorrowful occasion, Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University, Dehradun, paid a heartfelt tribute, bowing in reverence to his unparalleled artistic journey.
A special condolence programme was organised by the Department of Fine Arts of the university, where students and faculty members paid a true artistic homage to the late Ram V. Sutar through his portraits and creative interpretations of his works. The artworks created by students vividly portrayed his creativity, personality, and deep commitment to the nation, leaving everyone present deeply moved.
Expressing his condolences, the Founder Chairman of the University, Dr. Atul Krishna, stated,

“Ram V. Sutar was not merely a great sculptor; he was an artist who breathed life into Indian culture, history, and national pride through stone. His art will continue to inspire future generations with a spirit of creativity and dedication towards the nation.”
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Himanshu Aron, remarked,
“Ram V. Sutar’s contribution elevated Indian art to the global stage. His passing is an irreparable loss to the world of art, but his creations will ensure his immortality.”
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Director (Academics) Avni Kamal said,
“The lives of such great artists serve as living textbooks for students. Subharti University remains committed to carrying forward his artistic values and legacy through continuous academic and creative initiatives.”
The Dean of the Department of Fine Arts, Dr. Rita Tiwari, and Head of the Department, Santosh Sahni, jointly stated that Ram V. Sutar gave new heights to Indian sculpture, and his creative vision will forever remain a guiding light for students of art.
It is noteworthy that Ram V. Sutar passed away on December 17, 2025, leading to a wave of grief across the country. On this occasion, Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University reaffirmed its resolve to preserve and promote his invaluable artistic legacy through educational, cultural, and creative endeavours, ensuring that his contributions continue to inspire generations to come.
