IPR Awareness Workshop at Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University Emphasizes Linking Research with Industry with Support from UCOST

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Himanshu Aeran stresses securing research through Intellectual Property; UCOST Joint Director Dr. D.P. Uniyal says – “IPR is the most effective means of recognition and protection for scientific research.”

Dehradun: A significant workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Awareness” was organized at Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University, Dehradun. The objective of the program was to connect research work with industry as well as the health and wellness sector, while also increasing awareness about Intellectual Property Rights. The workshop was organized with the support of the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST).

The workshop was conducted in line with the concept of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the aim of linking scientific research with practical applications in society, industry, and the health sector. In this context, the theme of the workshop was “Translating Lab Innovations into Industrial and Health & Wellness Applications,” focusing on transforming research outcomes developed in laboratories into practical applications in industry and health-related sectors.

The program began with the welcome of guests and the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp.

In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Himanshu Aeran stated that in the present time it is extremely important to secure research work through patents and intellectual property rights. He said that the university regularly organizes such programs to make students and researchers aware of IPR so that their research work can become useful on a wider scale.

The keynote speaker, Dr. D.P. Uniyal, Joint Director of UCOST, said, “Intellectual Property Rights are an important means of giving recognition and protection to any scientific research. If research receives proper legal protection, it can play a major role in the development of industry, society, and the economy.”

During the workshop, senior scientist/expert Dr. Raj Kumar Singh delivered a lecture on biodiesel, stating that research in the field of alternative energy sources should be protected through patents and IPR so that both energy security and environmental protection can be promoted.

Ayurveda and Marma therapy expert Dr. Shishir Prasad shared his views on Marma therapy, emphasizing that knowledge and research related to traditional Indian medical systems should also be protected and promoted through Intellectual Property Rights.

During the program, distinguished guests were honored with mementos. Workshop kits were distributed to the participants, and in various sessions experts provided detailed information on intellectual property rights, patent processes, and the practical applications of research.

The successful organization of the workshop was supported by members of the organizing committee of Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University, including Dr. Sandeep Dhyani, Dr. Pushpa Dhyani, Dr. Pratibha Juyal, Mr. Suraj Singh, Mr. Naveen Fegwal, Mr. Pradeep Mahara, NSS Incharge, and Dr. Vandana Haldwan, who played an important role in making the event successful.
