First Lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities” Successfully Conducted

Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University A five-day lecture series on the theme “Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities” was formally inaugurated on Monday under the joint initiative of Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University, Dehradun and the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST).

The programme was organized at the Lokpriy Hospital Auditorium, Subhartipuram, located within the university campus.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Himanshu Aeran, attended the programme as the patron of the lecture series. In his address, he stated that the present era is the age of digital information and creative work, where the protection of research, creativity, and scientific achievements has become extremely important. He emphasized that a proper understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) enables researchers, students, and creative professionals to safeguard their ideas and inventions.
Prof. Dr. Himanshu Aeran further stated that the responsibility of universities is not limited to imparting education alone, but also includes fostering a culture of research, innovation, and protection of intellectual achievements. He expressed gratitude to UCOST for its support in organizing this lecture series and noted that such programmes would prove highly beneficial for students and young researchers.

During the first day of the lecture series, Mr. Himanshu Goyal, Scientist at the Patent Information Centre of the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology, delivered the keynote lecture. He elaborated on the growing challenges such as piracy, plagiarism, and data theft, which have increased with the expansion of digital platforms.
He also strongly emphasized the protection of indigenous products and noted that due to India’s patent and intellectual property policies, foreign companies could not claim ownership over traditional products such as turmeric, neem, and Kolhapuri chappals.
He further explained that while the internet era has made the exchange of knowledge faster and more widespread, the protection of copyrights, intellectual achievements, and technological enforcement mechanisms has become equally important. Effective utilization of IPR can play a crucial role in connecting research with industry and promoting new opportunities for innovation.
Ras Bihari Bose Subharti University The first session of the programme was coordinated by the Department of Allied Medical Sciences. Under the lecture series, several expert speakers will interact with students in the coming days and introduce them to various aspects of IPR.
According to the information released by the university, upcoming sessions will feature distinguished speakers including senior scientist Dr. Sangeeta Nagar from the Government of India, Prof. Dr. Rajesh Singh of Uttaranchal University, Dr. Anuj Raturi, and Mr. Ankush, who will share their insights on different dates.

The successful organization of the programme was made possible with the significant contributions of Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Desh Deepak, Research Coordinator Dr. Pratibha Juyal, Dr. Pushpa Dhyani, Mr. Suraj Singh, and Dr. Patra.
The programme witnessed notable participation from students, research scholars, and faculty members. Participants remarked that awareness and knowledge about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the digital age will prove highly useful for their academic and research work.
