Prosthodontics
Prosthodontics is the dental specialty that treats patients with missing or deficient teeth and/or oral and maxillofacial tissues. Optimal oral health and esthetics are obtained for patients through the use of dental implants, dentures, veneers, crowns and teeth whitening. Through diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance, a prosthodontist can improve the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of a patient.
The Department of Prosthodontics educates graduate and pre-doctoral students and provides care in the areas of fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, and occlusion. At the pre-doctoral level, faculty provide training in fixed, removable and implant prosthodontics. Residents of the Prosthodontic Residency Program manage the care of patients requiring moderate to complex oral rehabilitative treatments. In addition, the department furthers the scholarly activities through faculty and residents’ research.
