The National Testing Agency, NTA has announced the results of the NEET-UG exam in 2021 and at 19 years old, M Sangavi made her tribal community proud by passing the medical test. A girl belonging to a Scheduled Tribe (ST) from a settlement near Pichanur in Coimbatore district has cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in her second attempt, scoring 202 out of 720 marks.

Her path wasn’t an easy one. Sangavi claimed that the loss of her father, fighting against the lockdown, and seeing her mother’s eyesight being lost for a while, demonstrated how badly her community required medical aid.

With the help of state board books as well as the assistance of non-governmental organizations, she was able to pass the NEET-UG exam in just two attempts. The cut-offs for scheduled Tribes candidates ranging from between 108 and 137 in 2021 Sangavi has confidence in being accepted into an excellent medical school.

NEET 2021:

Shangavi, 19 from the Malasar tribe was the first person in the world to pass Class XII of the tribal community in the year 2018 and is now the first person to be cleared of NEET for her settlement. Shangavi was enrolled at a private institute for coaching in Saravanampatti in the spring of this year however, she was unable to continue taking classes because of the lockdown. “I prepared using State Board textbooks and the study materials provided by [the coaching institute],” she explained. She took NEET in the year 2018 after she had completed class XII however, she was unable to pass the test. She was a student in Class XI and IX at The Government Higher Secondary School in Pichanur.

Conclusion:

The minimum scores for ST candidates appearing for NEET 2021 can range from 108 to 137. After scoring above the cut-off mark Ms. Shangavi stated that she wants to become a doctor at a medical college run by the government.
