New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) is not mandatory for registration to the NEET-UG examination. This clarification addresses the confusion that arose following an earlier notification by the agency regarding the APAAR number.
In a notice issued on January 14, the NTA had instructed candidates to update their Aadhaar details and link them with the APAAR number. However, the agency has now clarified that this requirement is not compulsory, considering that many students in various regions have yet to receive their APAAR numbers.
The registration process for NEET-UG is set to commence soon.
With the announcement, the keywords ‘APAAR ID’ is back to the top lists on Google Trends since Monday afternoon.
What is an APAAR ID?
APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) is a 12-digit identity number that serves as a permanent academic record for students. This initiative is part of the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ program launched by the government, aligning with the new National Education Policy of 2020. It tracks their academic journey, including examination results, academic bank credits, and benefits like scholarships, there by ensuring a comprehensive and secure academic record system.
