Recently, the eligibility criteria for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate (UG) has been relaxed to provide more flexibility to aspiring medical students. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced that students who have studied Biology as an additional subject after their 12th standard are now eligible to appear for NEET UG.
This decision comes as a relief to many students who may have initially chosen a different stream in their 11th and 12th standard but later developed an interest in pursuing a career in the medical field. Previously, only students who had studied Biology as a core subject in their 12th standard were eligible for NEET UG.
The relaxation in eligibility criteria is a step towards ensuring equal opportunities for all deserving candidates who wish to pursue a career in medicine. It recognizes the fact that students may have different career aspirations during their early years of education and allows them to make a switch if they discover a passion for medicine later on.
However, it is important to note that this relaxation does not mean that Biology can be taken as an additional subject without studying it in the 12th standard. Students must have studied Biology as a core subject in their 12th standard and then opted for it as an additional subject in order to be eligible for NEET UG.
With this change, more students will now have the opportunity to pursue their dreams of becoming doctors, opening up avenues for a wider range of talent in the medical field. It is a positive step towards creating a more inclusive and diverse healthcare workforce in the country.
Aspiring medical students who meet the revised eligibility criteria can now confidently prepare for NEET UG and take a step closer to their dream of a career in medicine.
