Medical students who took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2023 examination have claimed discrepancies in the results. They say that the total marks they obtained as per their OMR sheets are significantly higher than the total marks given on their NEET result cards.
The All India Students Union (AISU), a student-led organization, has written a letter to Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, urging him to implement a time-bound grievance mechanism for post-result issues in competitive examinations.
Students and parents have taken to social media to share their OMR sheets and demand an explanation from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the NEET UG exam. They are calling it a “NEET OMR fraud” and a “NEET result scam.”
The NTA has not yet commented on the allegations.
The AISU’s letter to Pradhan said that the discrepancies in the NEET UG results have “caused widespread anxiety and distress” among students and their families. The letter called for the implementation of a grievance mechanism that would allow students to challenge their results within a specified time frame.
The AISU also asked Pradhan to ensure that the NTA conducts a thorough investigation into the discrepancies and takes appropriate action against those responsible.
The NEET UG exam is a gateway to medical education in India. It is one of the most competitive exams in the country, and the stakes are high for students who take it. The allegations of discrepancies in the results have only added to the anxiety and stress that students already feel about the exam.
It is important that the NTA take these allegations seriously and investigate them thoroughly. The students who have been affected by these discrepancies deserve a fair hearing, and they deserve to know what happened.
The NTA should also take steps to prevent such discrepancies from happening in the future. This could include improving the quality of the OMR sheets, providing more training to proctors, and implementing a more rigorous quality assurance process.
The NEET UG exam is an important exam, and it is essential that it is conducted fairly and accurately. The NTA has a responsibility to ensure that the results of this exam are reliable and trustworthy.
