The Supreme Court is hearing a petition challenging the criteria of income limit of Rs 8 lakh fixed for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). Last year, some medical aspirants had filed a petition against the 10 per cent quota for EWS in All India Quota in NEET PG counseling and the age limit set for it.
On May 19, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Surya Kant and Justice PS Narasimha had said that the matter would be heard by a three-judge bench. It is not possible to hear it during the summer vacation. Therefore, she will hear the matter when the court opens after the summer vacations.
On February 14, the top court had refused to entertain a plea seeking clarification on the application of EWS criteria of income of Rs 8 lakh in NEET-PG 2022-23. The court had said that it is looking into the matter and whatever decision it takes, it will be applicable.
