The Supreme Court has agreed to consider a petition seeking a special round of counseling for NEET PG to fill up vacant postgraduate medical seats. This decision was taken by the Supreme Court on 6 June 2022. The postgraduate medical seats are filled under All India Quota, AIQ and State Quota.
The Supreme Court on Monday decided to consider a petition seeking a special round of counseling to fill up vacant postgraduate medical seats under AIQ in NEET 2021. The petition was filed by medical students. Students have reported that many postgraduate medical seats in various colleges are still lying vacant.
A vacation bench of Justice MR Shah and Justice Aniruddha Bose asked Milind Kumar, the counsel for the medical students, to hand over the copy of the petition to the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC), National Board of Examinations and the Centre. The top court has fixed June 8, 2022 for hearing the matter.
As per reports, the bench directed the petitioners that a copy of the petition should be given to Ms. Aishwarya Bhati, Additional Solicitor General. The bench also asked the petitioners to submit an advance copy to the central agency.
The petitioners had appeared for NEET-PG 2021-2022 and had participated in All India Quota, AIQ Rounds 1 and 2 followed by All India Mop-up and State Mop-up rounds and completed on 7th May, 2022. The students had appeared in NEET 2021 and rounds, they were not able to secure the seat.
They said that they were upset with the process of counseling process by MCC in such a way that all the vacant seats were not part of the stray vacancy round of counselling.
The petitioners have directed the MCC to conduct a special vagabond round of counseling to allow the candidates to participate for the vacant seats after conducting the stray vacancy round of AIQ. He has also asked to provide the exact number of vacant seats after the stray vacancy round of AIQ.
Meanwhile, the result of NEET PG 2022 has also been declared and counseling is expected to start soon. NEET PG 2022 counseling dates will be shared by MCC on its website
