New Delhi: In a recent Order by HC to the National Board of Examination (NBE), the Union health ministry considers (UHM) and other concerned authorities to consider the plea by the petitioner whether the extension of application for NEET PG applications and completing the MBBS Internship could be extended in place of postponement of the exams.
This came into light after an MBBS graduate approached the High court seeking a plea regarding an extension of the date of application for registration to appear in NEET PG 2021. The counsel for the petitioner had submitted that since the date of the examination had been delayed from April to September, the considered authorities could consider extending the late date of completing the Internship as well.
A single Justice bench composed of Prateek Jalan has directed the coordinate with the concerned authorities and take a
decision on the said aspect till the next hearing on 12th Aug 2021.
The plea for an Extension of the deadline has been moved by a student who has just completed his MBBS course and will complete his internship too in September 2021. NEET-PG examination is held every year in January, usually. However, due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the examination was postponed and rescheduled to April 18. At that time, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) had said that the candidates would have to complete their internship by 30.06.2021.
As the petitioner student was not eligible to write the NEET-PG examination earlier, he didn’t apply for the same. However, as the case counts were rising, the Prime Minister decided to postpone NEET-PG, yet again and it has now been scheduled to be held on September 11. To be eligible to write the PG medical entrance now, the petitioner student had made several representations seeking permission to take the examination and finally approached the Delhi High Court.
The following are the prayers that the petitioner seeks in the petition:-
- A Writ of Certiorari calling for the records of the case and pursuit of the same.
- Quashing the action of NBE and other concerned authorities in not accepting the representations made by the Petitioner who has been requesting an extension of the date of application for registration for NEET-PG 2021.
- Direction upon the Respondents as to fix a new date of applying for NEET-PG 2021 who will be completing their internship by 30th September 2021.
- A Writ of Mandamus commanding the Respondents to duly pay the costs of this petition to the Petitioner.
As per the latest media reports, the plea by the petitioner and other students stated, “That the Petitioner along with several other students who have now completed their internship or will likely complete their internship by 30.09.2021. The admission or counseling process for them can commence now, but they will have to wait unnecessarily. So, now God knows that till when as for appearing in the NEET-PG examination as even though they have now become eligible for admission to the PG course and the admission test for the same i.e. NEET-PG 2021 which is yet to take place.” The students would have to suffer and the petition has been given due relevance by the high court. Now after the 2nd hearing, the decision regarding the consideration of application deadline extension will be made.
