It believes that disorders in the human body are due to an imbalance of three critical factors – Kapha (Phlegm), Pitta (Bile), and Vata (Wind). BAMS scope (Is MBBS better than BAMS?)

After getting a BAMS degree, you become an ayurvedic doctor, and are eligible to practice right away. There is post-graduation (PG) available after BAMS degree, but the bachelor’s degree is sufficient to get a job, unlike MBBS, where PG has become necessary for employment.

(a) Government job: You can find employment in a government hospital where the salary is Rs. 50,000 plus/ month (same as MBBS doctor). Also, now the Ministry of AYUSH is promoting alternative medicine courses (BAMS, BUMS, BHMS), so there is more scope of jobs for BAMS doctors (Ayurvedic doctors) in the government sector.

(b) Private practice: Recently, Indian people have become aware of Ayurvedic treatments and benefits, thus leading to more scope for private practice. According to the High Court Notice, ayurvedic doctors can obtain a license to give allopathy medicines for certain diseases. As a result, private hospitals/ nursing homes keep ayurvedic doctors as they can practice allopathy as well and are more economical.

(c) Lecturing in government ayurvedic colleges as well as private ayurvedic colleges.

(d) Foreign Scope: Apart from jobs in India, there are job opportunities outside India as well, as the demand for ayurvedic medicines has increased in foreign countries (Nepal, Bangladesh, and other south Asian countries).

(e) An ayurvedic study has also been added to the MBBS syllabus to generate interest and spread awareness of the benefits of Ayurveda among medical students.

(f) An ayurvedic doctor is also a pharmacist as he or she can produce medicines. While an MBBS doctor cannot make medicines.

(g) Just like modern medicine has its hospitals (MBBS), doctors, trained nurses, and pharmacists, ayurvedic medicine has its doctors (BAMS), ayurvedic nurses, and ayurvedic procedure to make medicines.

(h) Certificate courses available after BAMS: There are PG and Diploma courses available after BAMS. You can go for PG courses/ diploma in Ayurveda to enhance your ayurvedic skills for private practice, jobs in ayurvedic pharma industries or drug manufacturing companies, health care ayurvedic regime in resorts, etc. You can take up diploma courses after BAMS in Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Ayurveda Nursing and Pharmacy, Ayurvedic knowledge, Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, Panchkarma. A postgraduate diploma in Emergency Medicine, which is a short course of 6 months conducted in Modern Tertiary Healthcare Hospitals (e.g., Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai or Ruby Clinic in Pune), can help give value addition to the clinical practice of a BAMS student. If you don’t want to practice, there are administrative courses also available: MBA in Ayurveda Pharmacy, MBA in Geriatric Care Management. Advice: Ministry of AYUSH is promoting study/ practice of alternative medicine (BAMS, BHMS, BUMS), making them an attractive field of study to pursue by creating a lot of job opportunities to practice alternative medicine in the health sector. Therefore, compared to MBBS, there is less competition in BAMS and more market value, thus more BAMS scope.

Lifestyle disease is common these days, and people are seeking traditional healing that has no side effects as well. This growing demand makes BAMS an attractive field of study to pursue. Also, the Ministry of AYUSH is promoting the study/ practice of alternative medicine (BAMS, BHMS, BUMS), making them an attractive field of study to pursue by creating a lot of job opportunities in the health sector.
