Private Medical Colleges Can Now Take Over District Hospitals to Run PPP Model

NEET Bulletin(New Delhi, Desk): Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Tuesday at Rajya Sabha – The government will not compromise on the interest of patients while handing over district government hospitals to private medical colleges, through public-private asserting step is permitted under Clause 2(5) of the Medical Council of India (MCI) Act 1999 and is not being done to promote private sector.

For the proposed medical college, hospital should be capable of developing into teaching institution and required to have minimum 300 beds along with the necessary infrastructural facilities.

Minister also mentioned “Some of the best medical colleges in country are of International repute and providing better services” after disagreeing to CPI member’s view that entry of private sector into medical education was eroding the quality of education.
